Privacy policy
Hazri is for your own daily practice. Reading a bani, hearing it, seeing the calendar and keeping your diary all happen on your phone and work with no network. Nothing else leaves your phone unless you make a profile or join a group.
Effective 30 October 2026. This policy covers the Hazri app for Android and the website at hazri.me.
What stays on your phone
- Your diary, streaks and badges
- Your goals, reminders and reading position
- Every bani, its recitation and the calendar
- The Gurmat Quiz, when you play it without a profile
Uninstalling Hazri removes all of it.
What is sent, and when
Always: an anonymous sign-in
When the app starts it signs in to Firebase anonymously. This gives the install a random number. It carries no name, email or phone number, and there is no password and no sign-in screen.
If you make a profile
- Your name, email and city (chosen from a list), and your phone number if you give it
- Emails to that address only: to confirm it, and to bring your profile back on a new phone
- Once a day, that you opened the app, which is how your city shows on the globe
- A weekly backup of your goals, what you recited, your simran sittings and your badges, so a restore can bring them back
- When you take a Gurmat Quiz online: its topic and your five answers, scored on the server
- On the quiz leaderboards, which every Hazri user can see: your first name, the first letter of your last name, your city and your quiz points
If you join a Sangat group
- Each paath or sitting that counts toward your groups
- Your name, shown only to the members of your groups
- This phone's notification token, language and time zone, for the group's notifications
A group's globe shows how many of its members are in each city, never their names. In a small group, a city with one member can point to that member.
What Hazri never does
- No ads, and no advertising ID
- No third-party tracking or attribution
- No analytics: Firebase Analytics is in the app with collection switched off, and it sends nothing
- No location from your phone: your city is one you choose from a list
- Nothing is sold or shared with anyone for advertising or any other purpose
The globe shows a city and a count, never a name.
Who handles the data
Everything Hazri sends goes to its own server on Google Firebase (Cloud Functions and Firestore, in Mumbai, India). Firebase Cloud Messaging delivers group notifications. Confirmation and restore emails are sent through Brevo. These services process the data only to run Hazri. All of it travels encrypted (HTTPS).
How long it is kept
Your profile, its backups and your group memberships are kept while your profile exists. Quiz sessions are deleted after 30 days, and leaderboard rows expire on their own after the board's period has passed. Data on your phone is kept until you delete it or uninstall the app.
Your choices
- Use Hazri without a profile, and nothing about you leaves the phone except the anonymous sign-in.
- Leave a group at any time from inside the group.
- Ask for your profile and everything held with it to be deleted: see Delete your Hazri account.
Children
Hazri is not directed at children under 13, and does not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has made a profile, write to us and it will be deleted.
The website
hazri.me collects nothing: it has no forms, no cookies and no analytics.
Changes
If what Hazri sends changes, this page and the app's privacy screen change in the same release, and the date above changes with them.
